Background
-------------------------
O Luga O Le Motu was produced by the tamaiti of Tino e Tasi Preschool, who were aged between 3 and 4 years.
The project started with a simple idea of wanting to build their own game to play on a tablet. However, the children thought that this would not be possible as they did not have the “tools” to do it - only adults did.
They became Digital Producers, which involved them coordinating, collaborating, and strategising together with designers, audio engineers and developers to produce this app.
Fa’afetai lava to the Ministry for Pacific Peoples. With the support of the Toloa Community Fund, the tamaiti of Tino e Tasi Preschool realised their dream of building their own iOS game.
The Toloa fund was set up to help increase the number of Pacific people in careers related to science, technology, engineering and maths. This opportunity has opened the doors for our Pasifika tamaiti to become literate in digital technology.
Fa’afetai lava to Kiwa Digital, who made it possible for our tamaiti to develop and express their own creative ideas through digital technology. They discovered a variety of careers that feeds into the development of producing digital technology. The journey has created long-lasting memories and experiences that allows our tamaiti to see themselves in future career pathways that builds our digital future.
A big thank you to our Audio Engineer, Dean Smith, who recorded the magical voices of the tamaiti. The experience was new to the children, but under your gentle guidance, they were very inspired to perform and came away with a sense of achievement.
Finally, to the faia’oga of Tino e Tasi Preschool: thank you for being courageous in your teaching practice. You helped to design a learning pathway that embraces digital technology for our tamaiti. You have shown that, through innovative learning opportunities, preschoolers are very capable of understanding the basic principles and ideas of digital technology.
